Yesterday I attended the first annual “Go Green” event hosted by Abi’s Place, and was pleasantly surprised. I met many vendors not just interested in the bottom line, but also interested in helping people and the planet.
While my husband and I enjoyed learning about the various products and services being offered, our daughter had a blast engaging in the activities that were set up for kids. We learned how to create a simple habitat, how to improve our eating, use the safe products in the home, and how to recycle and conserve everything.
In addition to all that we learned, our daughter bounced in the bounce house, had her face-painted, constructed a wooden boat, got a recycled Frisbee, had her old t-shirt converted into a bag, adopted a tree, bought non-toxic nail polish and tried vegan chips.
While all the vendors were experts at living green, I wanted to mention some of our favorites:
- Vegan Outreach – works to expose and end cruelty to animals through the distribution of their advocacy booklets. We learned a lot on alternatives for eating with out meat and even picked up recipes. My entire family is definitely committed to boycotting animal cruelty and we believe that factory farmers need to be held accountable for their actions.
- Monkeyz Kloset– a Children’s and Maternity consignment boutique located conveniently in Coral Springs. Their specialty is brand name clothing so your kids can always look their best. Consignment shopping is shopping green and shopping smart. They offer products beyond consignment clothing such as Charlie’s Soap, gifts, and non-toxic grooming products. This is where we bought the non-toxic acetone and nail polish which we were pleased to find. They also gave us a sample of the laundry powder which we will be testing soon.
- Natural Resources Organic Pest Control– Stop the bugs with out hurting your family. We spoke to them and were very happy to learn that they offer a consultation that seeks to find the source of the problem versus simply treating it. We also learned that the treatments are made of soaps and plant oils and lack toxicity.
- Eco simplista– They are dedicated to providing their community with non-toxic solutions. Their goal is to make natural and healthy products more accessible to customers. All the materials they offer are hand-selected to ensure that they are both green and quality performing products. We enjoyed the demonstration they had regarding the water a toilet uses and how to convert it so that it will use less water when flushing.
- The Dirty Peaches Clothing– Moms dedicated to recycling clothing. They offer clothing, accessories, baby gear, and decor all made from nearly 100% recycled , rescued or vintage materials. They converted our old t-shirts into reusable bags.
Thank you so much for attending our 1st Annual Abi’s Place Go Green Event! What a beautiful write-up. I am so glad your family enjoyed it. We put a lot of time and love into creating a fun day for everyone 🙂
Thanks so much for the wonderful account of the Abi’s Place Go Green Event. It was a great education to visit the vendors and it’s nice to see that you enjoyed it as well. The overall feel of helping people is what Abi’s Place is all about. Glad you felt it too.
